WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME AS A DESIGN LEAD

Design is something every one of us relies on to make sense of the world, so we all have value to add in one way or another.

The value I bring to design teams is in encouraging the creative minds of those in my team to take requirements and create beautiful solutions that we can test. I believe in nurturing and guiding the talented members of my team in pursuit of world-class design solutions, and in being their source of guidance and direction.

The teams that I have been a part of have ranged from the old school tech-led teams, driven by an ambitious engineering lead; to teams that have grown and matured together and shared the responsibility of creating wonderful products for their end-users.

I believe that these experiences have given me a clearer perspective on how I want my teams to be led, and how to drive all my projects towards success. Good leadership allows for a team to satisfy both the business and user's needs, whilst maintaining a focused and motivated team.

My peers have described me as the cool head in the room, always calm when the stress levels are turned up. My leadership style encourages all to feel safe in sharing ideas, thus fostering an open and creative environment for all.

As a design leader I have had the responsibility of managing the expectations of more than just the design stakeholders, but those of business, development, risk and many other key members of the greater organisation. Design thinking is a key part of business strategy decisions and it is up to design leaders to maintain the respect that the design discipline has earned.

I believe that my experiences and values are what make me a competent design leader in this fast-paced world of designing at scale.
